Careers Talk

We welcomed back Old Dane, Darren Coombs, who came in this week to give a Careers talk to current sixth form students studying Psychology and Sociology.

Darren left 麻豆视频 in 2006 to study Criminology and International Security at Plymouth University. He left with a degree and after spending a few years working and travelling in the events industry, he applied to join the British Army as an Officer in the Royal Military Police. Darren spent 7 years in the Army and specialised as a Close Protection Team Leader before leaving for his current role as the Head of Event Security and Executive Protection for the tech giant Google.

Darren shared his experiences of leading teams across the globe, protecting members of the Royal family and famous celebrities. The students were fascinated and really enjoyed hearing about the realities, challenges and demands of the Army and the Corporate world.

We were delighted to read that our Design and Technology teachers, Miss Yalley and Mr Hadley were featured in the Design and Technology publication.  The article discusses the transformation of the Design & Technology (D&T) department at St. Clement Danes School over the past five years. Adopted industry models like the Double Diamond Design Process and Scrum-based project sprints to enhance student learning. Established workshops with industry professionals to inspire students, especially girls, to pursue design careers. Key Takeaways for Educators Adapt curriculum to student needs and school culture. Pilot new initiatives as clubs first to gauge student interest. Encourage student feedback to refine teaching methods. Be open to change and continuously evolve teaching strategies.
