Year 10 Franklin Scholars host multi school event

Prior to the Easter holidays, students from 5 schools in the Hertfordshire area visited St Clement Danes School for a day of community-focused collaboration and problem-solving, hosted by our year 10 Franklin Scholars. Students tackled challenges ranging from encouraging more girls into STEM subjects and careers, to elderly isolation. After a public speaking workshop, participants then pitched their ideas to a Dragon's Den-style panel, who awarded development cash prizes to those that had the most potential.

The team from Franklin Scholars reported that the students from St Clement Danes School were excellent ambassadors and hosts for the event, demonstrating impressive creativity, collaboration and application. The students completed written feedback after the event, stating that their favourite parts of the day were the public speaking workshop, building confidence and pitching their ideas to the rest of the groups.

81% of students agreed that they had developed key social and emotional skills,

79% of students think they are now more able to make a difference in their community,

and 68%of students said they feel more confident talking to new people.

The Franklin Scholars programme is a year long programme across the UK, which provides mentoring support to Year 7 students by a school’s most promising Year 10 students. The Year 10 students are trained to provide support to the younger students, to assist in the transition from primary to secondary school.
