Â鶹ÊÓƵ students dance their way to British Red Cross dance finals at O2 Arena
On Saturday 13th May, St Clement Danes students gave a fantastic performance at the senior heats of the British Red Cross Dance Competition, when they were named as the overall winners of the competition .This is part of the ‘Dance: Make Your Move 2017’ competition that the charity is running this year, and was held at the Greenwood Theatre, London. The team members were set the task of choreographing a dance piece under the guidance of PE teacher Miss Welford. The piece had to portray the work of the British Red Cross, and the Â鶹ÊÓƵ team chose to base it on the role of the Red Cross during World War II and the extensive services that they provided for the sick and wounded and also to prisoners of war. Our students discovered how the British Red Cross volunteers ran a search service in hospitals in order to gain information from patients about men who had been reported missing. The charity also ran a bereavement service for those families who could not be reunited with their missing family members.
Competition was fierce with St Clement Danes students competing against 10 schools, including not only dance schools but also companies based at the Greenwood Theatre. The team, who have raised £1030.00 for the Red Cross, also received a platinum award for their fundraising efforts and an award for the best use of dance theatre. Their achievement as winners of the competition earned the team a place at the National Final, which is being held on Sunday 2nd July at Indigo at the O2 Arena.
Well done to all members of the team on this tremendous success, and good luck at the finals in July!
